Window Furnishings for New Builds & Renovations

The easiest time to reserve space for a curtain track or motor cable is before the ceiling closes. Window furnishings belong in the design drawings, even if fabric selection happens later.

Layered full-height curtains integrated with a contemporary glazed opening

Resolve the invisible details early

A neat recessed track depends on more than the width of a ceiling slot. Allow for brackets or carriers, curtain waves, motor access and the hand space needed for fitting and servicing. The required recess is system-specific; a generic dimension copied from another project may be unsuitable.

Confirm fixing support with the builder and keep proposed tracks clear of services. Power provisions and any control wiring should be coordinated with the electrician and the selected motor system before finishes are complete. Final electrical work belongs with the appropriate qualified trade.

Let the building set the proportions

In a Federation renovation, an original cornice or architrave may deserve to remain visible rather than being hidden by a continuous ceiling track. In a contemporary extension, a broad glazed opening may benefit from a clean full-height line. The two can share a fabric palette without forcing the same heading or mounting detail into both parts of the home.

  • Use plans to develop the brief, then confirm final manufacturing dimensions on site.
  • Allow for the finished floor rather than relying on the structural slab level.
  • Agree sequencing and access requirements before promising an installation date.
  • Keep fabric availability and any changes to the building dimensions under review.

Questions & answers

When should we speak to CCBD?

As soon as window positions, ceiling details and room layouts are taking shape. Early advice can reserve the right space and support; exact fabric and control decisions can be refined as the interior develops.

Can you work from our plans?

Plans are useful for the initial window schedule, design discussion and coordination. They should not replace a final check of completed openings and mounting conditions before manufacturing dimensions are confirmed.
